What's New At Order Desk? - August 2024

Heat Wave

Order Desk’s (remote) water cooler has been all abuzz these past few weeks with chat about the heat wave that many team members are experiencing in their respective locations.

As a global company, one of the ongoing challenges of writing to you every month is finding topics that apply to the majority of our readers. I often find myself wanting to write about holidays, weather, and pop culture ideas that simply won’t resonate with everyone. For example, here in the San Francisco Bay Area, the weather is always pretty moderate (and foggy) in the summer, but my colleagues in New Zealand are currently experiencing their cold winter weather.

Despite the challenges that can come with our widespread locations, working with people from around the world on a daily basis contributes to the plethora of cultural backgrounds that have become the building blocks of the Order Desk experience.

Have you made any intentional steps toward keeping your marketing communication as broad as possible? I’d love to see some examples!

What happens when a company is built on a foundation of inclusion?

That’s exactly what print company Stakes MFG sought to find out as part of their initial three-year business plan.

Jed Seifert and Vince Bartozzi have been best friends since they met at the age of 5 and both share the same inspiration for their efforts toward creating a disability-friendly workplace: Jed’s brother, Darren Seifert.

Darren was born with Fragile X Syndrome, which is the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability and the leading known genetic cause of autism. While the exact number of people who have FXS is unknown, the worldwide estimate is between 1,400,000 and 777,000 (as reported by the National Fragile X Foundation).

Workplaces that make space for people like Darren not only benefit from their unique perspectives and talents, but they also enrich their disabled employees lives by allowing them more independence.

Up to 10% of Stakes MFG employees have developmental or intellectual disabilities and they work directly with the Cuyahoga East Vocational Education Consortium to employ 12 high school interns per semester from local high schools as part of a program that prepares young people with intellectual differences for entering the adult world after their schooling has ended.

They also work directly with other companies to help them set up their own disability inclusion programs, which makes it no surprise that Jed just won the Bess Cohn Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Advertising Specialty Institute!

Check out Apparelist’s Raising the Stakes: Building a Disabilities Inclusion Program series to learn more about their efforts.

We’ve updated our Terms of Use to include a section about chargebacks and account termination, as well as to better explain what we define as “Billing Abuse”.

This update helps us maintain a smooth and transparent billing process on the very rare occasions where chargebacks occur. If you ever have any question about your bill, our support team is more than happy to answer it for you.
