What's New At Order Desk? - September 2024

Staying Safe In Q4

We’re heading into the busiest season of the year and while that could mean big profits for your business, it also brings with it an increase of cybersecurity threats.

Studies show that 80-90% of cybersecurity breaches are due to human error. This should come as no surprise since phishing attacks can often come in the form of fake holiday offer emails, false fraud alerts with scammers posing as financial institutions, and even “shipping alerts” for packages you never ordered. Those are very clickable things!

Luckily, there are lots of ways to learn ways to improve your internet safety acumen.

So, as Q3 comes to a close, let’s talk cybersecurity mindfulness!

Some tips from our developers

A few small changes to how you secure and protect your data can make a world of difference. If you’re not sure where to begin, try starting with these suggestions from our own security experts:

  1. Create completely random, high quality passwords for every website. Don’t reuse the same password twice. Password managers can come in handy for creating and storing your unique passwords.
  2. Try to avoid opening links from emails whenever possible, or ensure the domain they point to is correct. Remember the holiday offer emails and shipping alerts I mentioned earlier? If you don’t recognize a sender or an email seems suspicious, don’t click included links.
  3. If you’re working on an unsecured public network (who doesn’t love catching up on work at your favorite local coffee shop?), use a VPN to add a layer of security to your connection.
  4. Don’t leave your computer unattended in public spaces, and make sure that your computer has a password, logs out automatically, and requires a password when it wakes up.
  5. Install antivirus software on your computer and make sure to runs scans at least once a week. There are plenty of free and low-cost options.
  6. Keep up-to-date on operating system security updates.
  7. NEVER install unknown software.

Making these simple changes could save you a lot of frustration and lost income.

Looking For Release Notes?

They’re not on our blog!

We didn’t have enough updates for a full blog post this month, but I wanted to mention that Wix, eBay, and TikTok Shop now support bundling and code_replace sync. For more about how these features work in Order Desk, check out our How to Use Code Replace guide.
